WestTown Resource Center
The Homeless Alliance is currently developing a comprehensive resource center where people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness can access the services they need to achieve long-term stability in their lives. This facility, the WestTown Resource Center, will provide day services to the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in central Oklahoma by locating multiple service agencies on one site. The property is just west of downtown, located at NW 3rd Street and Virginia Avenue in Oklahoma City. While the project is being developed by the Homeless Alliance, all services will be provided by existing agencies in Oklahoma City. The WestTown Resource Center will be a broad collaboration with the faith community and multiple social service agencies.
Mission: The WestTown Resource Center, based on the values of collaboration, progress, and respect, seeks to serve homeless and at-risk persons by providing a comprehensive resource center focused on long-term solutions to housing security.
The Homeless Alliance is in the planning stages for the development of the WestTown Resource Center, but many services have already been identified. Individuals and families accessing services at the center will be assigned a service coordinator when they arrive; the service coordinator will assist in creating an individual plan for moving back into housing and helping the client navigate the many services available on-site and elsewhere in the city. On-site services will include:
- Employment training and placement
- Housing support
- Medical/dental clinic
- Resource and lending library
- Mental health and substance abuse treatment
- Emergency overflow and disaster recovery shelter
- Activities of daily living (showers, laundry, communications, etc.)
- Government benefits programs (DHS, Social Security, VA, etc.)
- Transportation assistance
- Legal, spiritual, and financial counseling
The Homeless Alliance is in the process of engaging an architecture firm, raising funds in a capital campaign, and working with the neighborhood surrounding the WestTown Resource Center to ensure we build a strong relationship with area residents and business owners.
